There is much conflict in Bolivia. President Rodrigo Paz declared a state of emergency. This means: The army helps now in the country. Soldiers shall clear blocked roads. People block paths for 50 days. The economy stands still. Gasoline and food are missing. Medicines are rare. 14 people died because of the blocks. Ambulances could not reach the hospital.
The conflict started in May. The government stopped paying for fuel. Gasoline became very expensive. People are angry about high costs. They want the president to step down. There were talks with a group of workers. But many groups continue to protest. People from the countryside protest hard. A strong group is called Tupac Katari.
This group fights for the rights of native people. They want freedom for prisoners. The city La Paz was cut off. 2 million people live in this city. The president wants peace with the army. He says: The state of emergency ensures order.
