There was a big vote in Switzerland. The party SVP wanted a limit. The country should have 10 million people. They call this plan a sustainability rule.
55 percent of voters said no. Many people took part. The west of Switzerland said no. The big cities said no too.
Many people worry about the economy. Switzerland needs workers from other countries. Many workers are missing in hospitals. They are also missing in hotels and bars.
A yes would mean trouble with the EU. Switzerland has contracts about moving people. The country would have to end these contracts. Trade with Europe would be hard.
The SVP is sad about the result. They say: Switzerland is too full. Trains are full. Rents get higher. They want strict rules.
Other parties are happy. They say: People want to be open. Foreigners do not cause all problems. The government talks to the EU now.
