The car maker Volkswagen plans big changes. It wants to save a lot of money. Therefore many people lose their jobs. In total it is 100,000 jobs. That is almost every 6th job at VW.
Boss Oliver Blume presented these plans. He wants to make the company smaller and better. 4 factories in Germany will close too. This hits the plants in Hannover, Zwickau and Emden. The Audi plant in Neckarsulm is also affected.
The production will slowly stop there. This happens when the current car models are finished. VW wants to divide itself again. Single brands shall become their own firms. Then one can sell them better at the stock market.
The supervisory board talks about these plans soon. The meeting is on July 9. Many workers worry now. The whole car industry changes strongly right now.
