It is very hot in Germany and Austria. The temperature is often over 30 degrees. In the south-west it reaches 37 degrees. At night the air stays warm. These are 'Tropennächte'. A 'Tropennacht' is a night above 20 degrees.
The heat is dangerous for animals. Animals do not sweat like humans. They cool down by panting. Dogs suffer at 28 degrees. The ground gets very hot. The hot ground burns dog paws. Give your animals water and shade. In Vienna, carriage horses have a break in the heat.
Now heavy storms come. There is damage in the north of Germany. In 'Heidenau' hail fell. The hail was as big as tennis balls. The hail broke roofs and cars. In 'Hannover' there was much rain. The fire brigade pumped water out of cellars. In Austria the risk of storms is high. In 'Kärnten' and 'Steiermark' storms are very strong.
One problem stays. It does not rain enough. The ground is very dry. In 'Millstatt am See' there is little water. The town asks for help. People must save water. Do not water the lawn. Do not wash cars. All people need the water to drink.
