The Abgeordneten-Haus in Italy voted for a new law. 217 people voted for the plan. 152 people voted against the plan. Now the Senat must look at the plan. Then they decide about the law.
The law uses a Proporz-System. This means: Parties get seats by their percentage of votes. Does a group get more than 42 percent? They get more seats. This is called a Mehrheits-Bonus.
The government says: The country gets a stable majority. But the opposition has much criticism. They call the law a trick. Critics say: Giorgia Meloni wants more power for the 2027 election.
The government had a big argument recently. The parties disagreed about preferred votes. But the coalition stayed together for the law. The debate in the Senat starts after the summer break.
