Austria has investigation committees. The parliament checks important topics there. In the past, only media people could listen. These are reporters from newspapers. A group for data protection wanted a change. The group is called epicenter.works.
The Constitutional Court made a new decision. The old rule is wrong. It breaks the principle of equality. Other people can now report too. These people must have expert knowledge. They must follow rules for journalists. People call them public watchdogs.
The new rule starts on 1 January 2028. Nothing changes for the current committees. Recordings of sound and pictures stay forbidden. This protects the rights of the people. In autumn, important politicians answer questions. These are Karl Nehammer and Wolfgang Sobotka.
