The government in Austria makes a new plan. It wants to support good news work. There is much money for newspapers until 2028. Minister Andreas Babler says: Good news helps our freedom. The government fights against lies and wrong news.
There are 3 pots with money. The first pot helps to bring papers home. Papers with subscriptions get 22.5 million Euro. So all people get news at home. It does not matter if you live in cities. Free papers do not get this money.
The second pot is for Digital-Transformation. This means: Newspapers use more computers and the internet. There is also 22.5 million Euro every year. Also free media can ask for this money. The projects must be very good. Small media houses get help more easily.
The third pot is for young people. There are 7 million Euro for new formats. These are projects from new small companies or News-fluencern. These news must be free for young people. Also there are 3 million Euro for Medien-Kompetenz. This helps people to understand news better.
