Deutsche Bahn makes a new rule. Nobody may drink alcohol at 5,400 stations. This rule is active by October 15, 2026. Some big stations already have this rule. These are Cologne, Munich and Hamburg. Soon all other stations follow. Berlin, Kiel and Braunschweig follow in September.
The reason is violence. Many bad acts happen with alcohol. A worker was hurt in a train recently. He fell out of the train. He was in danger of dying. The attacker was drunk. Evelyn Palla is the boss. She wants to protect people. She wants less violence and less trash.
There are rules for exceptions. You may drink in the restaurants at the station. You may carry alcohol in your bag. The bottle must be closed. Drinking in the train is still okay. The train company uses its 'Hausrecht'. This means the company owns the station. You must leave if you break the rule. Sometimes you get a ban from the station.
Politicians have different views. Many like the idea. But they are also worried. There are not enough workers for checks. The police are already very busy. Critics say: A ban needs many workers to work. In Switzerland people talk about this too. But experts see no need there right now.
