The UN is very worried. The HIV epidemic can grow worse worldwide. The reason is missing money for help programs. Last year the money drops by 18 percent. This is only 7,3 billion dollars.
This is the lowest level in nearly 20 years. The group UNAIDS tells this in Brazil. There a big Aids meeting takes place. The goal is to beat Aids by 2030.
This goal is now in big danger. 1,2 million people get the virus new. Especially the USA pay much less money. US President Donald Trump stops the payments in January 2025.
Life saving drugs exist again. But many care programs stay cancelled. In parts of Africa south of the Sahara the situation is bad. There happen almost half of all new infections.
In countries like Cameroon or Nigeria there is barely care left. The number of people with protect drugs sinks there strong. The help goes back by more than 50 percent.
