It is very hot in Austria. The temperature goes up to 41 degrees. This is dangerous for workers on site. The union and the worker group demand more safety. Companies can give heat leave from 32,5 degrees. But workers have no firm right to this. The representatives want a new law for heat leave.
There is a heat rule since 2026. Companies must protect workers from 30 degrees. Checks show many problems. Bosses break the rules very often. The union wants shorter work hours on hot days. Heavy work is only safe for 15 minutes.
Some big firms already protect their workers. They give cool towels and sun cream. Some firms start work early in the morning. Then workers stop before the noon heat. Talks about better worker safety start in autumn. The goal is paid breaks and good rules for heat.
