It is very hot in Italy. Many people want to go to the sea. But the beaches are often expensive. You must pay money for chairs and umbrellas. This often costs 40 euro per day.
The city of Rome now does something against this. Private beach clubs are closed in the town of Ostia. Workers tear down old buildings there. A free beach shall exist here soon.
The mayor of Rome is Roberto Gualtieri. He wants more space for all people. Before, only few parts of the beach were free. Now much more kilometers shall be free.
There is also trouble because of fences and walls. These block the way to the water. A rule from the EU says: The land at the beach belongs to the state. Therefore, not everyone can just earn money there.
From the year 2027, new rules exist. Then the owners of the beach clubs must make new contracts. This shall also come in other parts of Italy.
