The Wohn-Schirm is a help program. It protects people from money trouble. It helps when tenants cannot pay rent. Then they face a delogierung. This means: You must leave the flat.
Since 2022, 18,736 households got help. This is a total of 42,291 people. Many of these people are children. In every second home live children. Also many single parents use this offer.
Women need this help very often. 53 percent of adults in the program are female. The help costs a lot of money. Austria pays 28 million euro every year. The program runs until 2029.
There are 3 parts in the Wohn-Schirm. The first part helps with rent. The second part is Wohn-Schirm energy. It helps with high costs for power and heat. So the flat stays warm.
The third part is housing first. This is English for: First a flat. Here homeless people get a safe flat. So far, 1,815 people found a new home. Social minister Korinna Schumann praises the Wohn-Schirm.
