Good-bye to King Harald
King Harald the Fifth is dead. He was 89 years old. He was the king of Norway for 35 years. Many people in Norway are very sad.
Thousands of people came to the palace in Oslo. They put flowers and letters there. They lit candles for the dead king. Flags hang low in the whole land.
The first speech of King Haakon
His son is now the new king. His name is Haakon the Eighth. He is 53 years old. On Saturday he gave his first speech on TV.
He talked very nicely about his father. He called him a good dad and grandfather. Haakon said: I will miss his smile. He thanked his father for his work for the land.
The future of the kingdom
Haakon wants to be there for all people. His wife Mette-Marit is now the queen. Their daughter Ingrid Alexandra is the new crown princess. That is the title for the next person on the throne.
On Tuesday the king swears an oath in the parliament. That means, he promises his loyalty. Norway is a parliamentary monarchy. The king has mostly festive tasks there.
