On August 12, 2026 something special happens in the sky. The moon moves right in front of the sun. This is a solar eclipse. In some countries it gets dark at day. This happens in Spain, Iceland and Greenland.
The dark time lasts a bit more than 2 minutes. In other parts of Europe people see a partial eclipse. The moon does not cover the sun completely there. In Berlin for example 85 percent of the sun are hidden. In London it is 91 percent.
Almost 1 billion people can see the eclipse. This is every eighth person on earth. A total solar eclipse is rare. In Europe the last one was in the year 1999. In Spain many big cities are in the dark area.
