A special court in Den Haag makes a big choice. Hashim Thaçi must go to prison for 25 years. He was the president from Kosovo. The judges say: He is a war criminal.
In the years 1998 and 1999 there is a war in Kosovo. Thaçi is a leader of the army UÇK. This army fights for freedom. The court sees many crimes. The army locks people up. The army hurts people. The army kills people.
The court sees 96 murders. The court sees over 300 cases of torture. Thaçi knows about these acts. He does not stop them. The court finds 3 other men guilty too. They get prison time from 13 to 25 years.
Many people in Kosovo love Thaçi. They see him as a hero. People make loud protests in Prishtina. People fight with police in Den Haag. The court says: We judge only the men. We do not judge the state Kosovo.
