Hashim Thaci was the president from Kosovo. A special court in Den Haag says: He must go to prison for 25 years. He is a war criminal.
In the years 1998 and 1999 there was a war. Kosovo wanted to be free from Serbia. Thaci was a leader of the army UCK. The judges say: He is responsible for murders.
He also ordered torture and prison for people. 96 people died at that time. Thaci says: I am not guilty. The judgment is not final yet. He can fight it.
Other men from the UCK also get high punishments. In Kosovo many people protest after the judgment. They see Thaci as a hero for their land.
