Chancellor Christian Stocker says no to new debt. He speaks for Austria. Germany and Denmark say no too. Finland and the Netherlands join them. These 5 countries are net payers. This means: They pay much money to the EU. They get less money back.
The EU Commission wants a very big budget. It shall be 2 trillion euros heavy. The 5 countries find this too much. They demand cuts of many billion euros. They refuse common debt for all countries. Old debt costs much money already.
Stocker wants to use money in other ways. He wants more money for security and defense. The stopping of migration moves is important to him too. The EU offices shall save staff. The countries want a Europe that is ready for the future.
