It is very dry in Austria this year. It rains far too little. This is bad for the farmers. The harvest in autumn is very small.
It is very bad for potatoes. More than half of the harvest is missing. There are also big losses for corn and soy beans. There is almost 30 percent less corn.
The agriculture office calls the situation dramatic. Josef Moosbrugger is the boss of the office. He says: The farmers need help from the government. Money for the future is important.
It also looks bad for sugar beets. A factory closed last year. Therefore farmers grow fewer beets. The heat makes the harvest even smaller.
There is also less wine and apples. The wine harvest drops by one fourth. One third of apples is missing compared to 2025. Only grain is a bit better than thought.
