People in Spain are very angry. The rent costs too much money. Many people walk on the street. They protest in over 50 towns. In the city Madrid are many people. The police say: There are 70.000 people. The leaders say: There are 500.000 people. Many people want a general strike. This means: All people stop work together.
The people want cheap flats. They want a better law for tenants. Many people can not pay the rent. The rent is now two times higher than before. In Madrid people sleep in tents. They want to make pressure on politicians. One reason is an old woman. She must leave her flat.
The boss of the government is Pedro Sánchez. He wants new laws. These laws protect tenants. But the parliament says no. Other parties vote against the laws. The government has no power. Pedro Sánchez thinks about new elections now.
Most towns stay quiet. But in Valencia is trouble. People fight with the police. The police use tear gas. Some people break into a house. The police push them out. In Barcelona the people wait with the protest because of bad weather.
