More time to shop
Marcel Haraszti leads Rewe in Austria. He wants longer opening times for shops. Shops are open for 72 hours per week now. He wants 78 hours per week. This affects Billa, Penny and Bipa.
Haraszti wants longer times for Billa boxes too. These are small shops without staff. Customers pay at the cash desk alone. A court says the same rules apply for these boxes and normal shops.
Wishes of the people
Rewe asks 1000 people in a survey. Almost 73 percent want longer opening times. They want to shop after 20 o'clock. Many people want to use the boxes on Sundays.
Politicians have new plans. Digital shops without staff shall have new rules. Haraszti wants fast changes now. This helps people in the country.
Support from business
Rainer Trefelik likes the idea too. He works for the chamber of commerce. He wants longer times on Saturday evening. He talks about open Sundays in the year. Up to 10 Sundays can be open for shopping.
