The Formula 1 team Aston Martin is facing serious technical problems right before the season starts in Melbourne. Team Principal and star designer Adrian Newey confirmed that the new Honda 'Power Unit' creates extreme vibrations. These vibrations are transmitted directly through the 'Chassis' to the drivers' hands, which is a significant health risk.
Newey stated that Fernando Alonso could drive a maximum of 25 laps in a row under these conditions before the risk of permanent 'Nervenschäden' (nerve damage) in the hands becomes too great. His teammate Lance Stroll already reaches this critical limit after 15 laps. The vibrations are so strong that the reliability of the car also suffers; reports suggest that external parts like mirrors or taillights could even come loose while driving.
Fernando Alonso expressed concern, describing a numbness in his hands and feet after longer drives. The team is currently checking different scenarios for Sunday's race. Experts speculate whether the cars might have to retire early to protect the drivers' health and to avoid total technical damage. Meanwhile, the new Audi factory team, with Nico Hülkenberg, is preparing for its debut under the changed regulations, which require a significantly higher electric component in the drive system.
