The trade union Verdi calls for a warning strike. Many people stop working in retail and wholesale. This happens today in all of Germany. Known shops like Rewe, Kaufland and Edeka are part of it. Fashion shops like H&M and Zara also strike. Warehouses and medicine sellers strike too. But medicine stays safe for the people.
Verdi wants more money for the workers. Prices for food and energy are very high. The union demands 7 percent more wage. That means 220 to 300 Euro more each month. The bosses offer very little money so far. They offer only 2 percent more. This starts in November. Verdi finds this offer bad.
Customers do not need to fear. Most shops are open today. The trade union sees no big problems. Sometimes it takes more time to pay. Many people meet in Hamburg, Stuttgart and Dortmund. Over 5 million people work in trade in Germany. The talks for new contracts go on now.
