The army has much work in 2026. Helicopters fly to 17 forest fires. In the year before, the army helps only one time. The pilots fly almost 340 hours. They bring over 3 million liters of water to the fire. Often, fires are in areas that are hard to reach.
The pilots must work very carefully. They drop the water directly on the fire. They talk closely with the fire brigade. The helicopters start in Steiermark, Ober-Österreich and Nieder-Österreich. There are missions in 5 different states.
Klaudia Tanner is the defense minister. She praises the work of the soldiers. The army wants to help better in the future. From the year 2028, Austria gets new transport planes. These planes can carry more water. Two of these planes get a special Modul zum Löschen.
