In Austria, students take a medical test. The name is Med-AT. 17,000 people want to take this test. But there are only 1,950 study places.
Children of academics have better chances. Academics have a university degree. 58 percent of students have such parents.
Many parents are doctors themselves. This helps their children with the test. The government wanted more children from working families. The goal was 50 percent.
The goal is not ready yet. The test makes access hard. Many students choose science or law instead.
Few pass the test after the Matura. The Matura is the school leaving exam. Many try 2 or 3 times.
Most students finish their studies. This also counts for children without academics as parents. 8 out of 10 students get their diploma.
