In Austria, students take a test. It is called Med-AT. 17.000 people want to take the test. But there are only 1.950 places.
Children of Akademikern have better chances. Akademiker are people with a university degree. 58 percent of students have such parents.
Many parents are doctors. This helps the children with the test. The government wanted more children from worker families. The goal was 50 percent.
The goal is not yet reached. The test makes the entry difficult. People without a place study science instead. Or they study law.
Few people pass the test after the Matura. The Matura is the school exam at the end. Many try 2 or 3 times.
Students with a place finish the studies often. This also applies to children without Akademiker parents. More than 8 of 10 finish the Diplom.
