The ship Hondius had an outbreak of the Hanta-Virus. The ship was in the Atlantic ocean. The World Health Organization studies the virus. People call the organization WHO. Experts checked the genes of the virus. They found no dangerous change in the virus.
There are 10 cases of the sickness now. 8 cases are sure in the laboratory. 3 people died from the virus. One dead woman is from Germany. A couple from the Netherlands also died.
The virus is called Andes-Virus. Usually rodents like mice spread the sickness. This happens through dust with animal poo. Humans can catch this virus from humans. But they need very close contact.
A man from the Netherlands was the first sick person. He watched birds in South America before the trip. He had contact with rodents there. Then he went on the ship. He made other people sick there.
The ship had 150 people on board. It stopped at the island Tenerife. All passengers are at home now. They must stay in quarantine. That means: They must not meet other people.
More people can get sick. The sickness starts after many weeks. The WHO says: People do not need to worry. The authorities watch the situation well.
